News Conference for the “2007 World Sinology Conference” held at Renmin University of China

    On March 19, 2007, a news conference for “2007 World Sinology Conference” was held at Renmin University of China. Thirty-seven reporters from the news media including Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, Wenhui, China Education, CCTV, Beijing TV station, and Phoenix TV attended the conference. At the conference, Xu Lin, Director of Hanban introduced the theme and substance of the World Sinology Conference to the reporters. Chen Yulu, Vice President of Renmin University of China, introduced the organization and arrangement of the conference，while Professor Yang Hengda and Professor Yang Xusheng introduced Chinese Sinologists at the conference.

　　More than one hundred and seventy Chinese and foreign scholars from over 20 countries will gather together in Beijing from March 26th to 27th,for the “2007 World Sinology Conference”, organized by Hanban and Renmin University of China. The theme of this conference is “courteous dialogue and a harmonious world” and it aims to strengthen the interaction between academics in China and the rest of the world, promote the development of Sinology, to make a contribution towards the establishment of a harmonious world.
　　The World Sinology Conference is organized due to new needs demands of international Sinology around the world. Strengthening dialogue between is Sinologist around the world and Chinese scholars in China is a request by both. The direct driving force behind this “World Sinology Conference” is the need to fill the gap that exists between the Chinese and foreigners in understanding China, to exchange oriental and western cultures, to search for universal values and to help build a harmonious world together.
　　Teaching of Chinese language and the study of Sinology have an inseparable and reciprocal relationship. Most Sinology research institutions are also the main institutions for the teaching of Chinese language. Many directors of the Confucius Institutes are also Sinologists. Strong development in the teaching of Chinese language will give Sinologists a bigger stage to demonstrate their talents. The teaching of Chinese language and the study of Sinology supplement each other in their growth together.
